The Association of Pet Dog Trainers has declared January Train Your Dog Month. SDU is celebrating by posting lots of good dog information on Twitter, Facebook, and right here at the Smart Dog Blog. If you're not already following us on Twitter or Facebook, make sure you do - and soon! All this month we'll be helping you help your dog learn better manners.
Some people ask, "Why should I train my dog, he's a good boy." That's a valid question and I answer this way: training can be so much more than just good manners. Training can be something fun for you and your dog. There are so many fun activities you can do together with your dog: tracking, agility, Rally obedience, flyball, herding, search and rescue, therapy dog work...the list is endless!
Or, if you're not interested in any of that, just teaching your dog some funny, cool tricks is fun, too! And not just for you - the dog LOVES this stuff! He gets the chance to earn food treats, he gets you're undivided attention, he gets to use his brain - does it get any better than that?! In your dog's opinion, no, it doesn't get any better than that!
